July 2007 Business of the Month
Crouch, Spangler and Douglas
117 South Lexington
380-3238

A charter member of the Harrisonville Area Chamber of Commerce and the oldest operating law firm in the county, Crouch, Spangler & Douglas has combined their long and rich history with a respected and trusted reputation for serving the needs of their clients.

All of the firm's eight attorneys have been with Crouch, Spangler & Douglas since graduation from law school. With the help of two paralegals and a staff of eight, the firm's major areas of practice encompass civil litigation, real estate, probate, estate planning, banking law and school law.

The firm was founded in Cass County in 1895 by Leslie M. Crouch, Sr., who went on to serve as probate judge. After eight years on the bench, Judge Crouch opened his Harrisonville law practice on the south side of the square above the Bank of Harrisonville. Judge Crouch's son, L.M. Crouch, Jr., joined his father in the practice in 1921. By the mid 1950's, their practice had grown to include significant work in estates, condemnation and transportation regulation. Robert W. Spangler joined the firm in 1955, followed by Elvin S. Douglas, Jr., in 1958. This group of four named their practice Crouch, Crouch, Spangler & Douglas, a name they carried until 1985 when the name was shortened to Crouch, Spangler & Douglas.

In 1964, James Thompson, Jr., came aboard, and the firm purchased the bank building and expanded offices to both floors. In 1977, the adjoining Deacon Building was acquired, and openings were made between the two buildings to create additional office space.

Charles Weedman, Jr., joined the firm in 1978 and Linda Sherman joined in 1979. By 1981, the firm had lost its two founding members, the Judge and L.M., but it has retained the name of Crouch in deference and respect for its former partners.

A satellite office was opened in Belton, Missouri, in 1983, to serve the expanding population in the northern part of the County. The firm was joined by Aaron Aurand in 1986, Meryl Lange in 1990, T.R. Hoefle in 2005 and Lynn Lafoon in 2007.

The partners take a great deal of pride in the firm's rich history and the civic involvement of their members. Indeed, our community has been blessed with a treasure in the firm of Crouch, Spangler & Douglas.
