January 2006 Business of the Month
KFC
1606 N 291 Highway
380-5931

It all began with a 65-year-old gentleman who used his $105 Social Security check to start a business.

Today, the KFC® business started by Colonel Harland Sanders has grown to be one of the largest quick service food service systems in the world. And Colonel Sanders, a quick service restaurant pioneer, has become a symbol of entrepreneurial spirit.

Every year, more than a billion of the Colonel's “finger lickin' good” chicken dinners are served, and not just in North America. The Colonel's cooking is available in more than 80 countries and territories around the world, and right here in Harrisonville.

The original Harrisonville KFC was built and opened in the 1980's. This unit served the community for over 15 years until the original building was demolished and a new and bright facility was erected in May 2004, after three months of construction.

Manager Tom Cook joined the KFC team in 2004 when he returned to Harrisonville after living in California for 15 years. He started as an Assistant Manager assigned to the KFC/Taco Bell facility in Oak Grove. In October 2004 he transferred to the Harrisonville unit as the First Assistant Manager, and was promoted to General Manager in March 2005. Tom has over 20 years experience in the food service industry.

One of the most popular features of Harrisonville’s KFC is the buffet, which was expanded to offer an even greater variety of items for the customer. Also popular is the famous bucket of chicken, which is served as a family meal, and the homestyle sides such as green beans, sweet corn on the cob, mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni and cheese.

KFC continually strives to grow its business through customer service, consistent food quality, and good customer relations.

KFC’s employees are primarily high school students. “We try to give them a positive first experience in the working environment. Hopefully what they learn at KFC will give them a good basis for their future endeavors, “ said manager Tom Cook.
