“I love, for the most part, all sports...and anything related to sports...playing, watching and talking about it!” said All Sport owner Jonathan Abnos. Indeed, this love has allowed Jonathan has created a true gem of a store in Harrisonville. All Sport opened at the Mill Walk Mall in 1991, and over the last 15 years, it was grown to three times its original size; now boasting over 5,000 square feet of sporting apparel, equipment and footwear. All Sport carries over 800 styles of shoes, over 30 styles of track spike, baseball and soccer cleats and a large selection of sports-related apparel and caps. “We simply have a better footwear selection than any other store around, including the big chains like Dick’s Sporting Goods and Foot Locker. And, our prices are very competitive and our service is far superior.” The decision on what to carry in the store relies on a variety of things. Some lines and giant brands are obvious staples in the business. Nike, Adidas, Reebok, New Balance, K-Swiss, Doc Martens, Sketchers and Oakley sunglasses are the most common popular names. “Other brands become popular and hot for a while and then fade away. Keeping in touch with sports media and popular culture and keeping up with the fashion and function side of the sports industry helps guide our buying decisions, along with customer requests and popular advertising.” Jonathan said. Right now, the store’s most popular items are shoes called Nike SHOX, Adidas A-Cube and the Reebok Pump, along with track spikes, baseball and soccer cleats and accessories. “It varies from one season to another, but some things are always popular, like caps, Nike apparel, comfort walking shoes and lettermen jackets and patches. Jonathan enjoys the challenge of keeping up with product changes and bringing in the right products at the right time, at the right price. “We’re bringing back Puma brand shoes and adding skateboard brand footwear from DC and Etnies.” Jonathan and wife Patricia have been together for 14 years and married for six. Daughter Mia is one year old and another baby on the way. All-Sport’s employees are its most prized possession and the most important factor in its success and longevity over the past 15 years. Long-time employees Jane Weidenmann, Hannah Wallace, Ashley Riggs, Rachel Hunter and Raghela Scavuzzo are great friends of the Abnos family. Jonathan said that he and Patty enjoy their chamber membership. “We get recognized in the local community, and it gives us a chance to learn about other area businesses and the products and services they offer.” | |||||||||||||
